Observational studies suggest that HIV infection is associated with a risk for higher COVID-19 severity, yet important questions remain regarding how HIV influences the risk for COVID-19-associated complications. For example, no rigorous data currently exist indicating that patients with low CD4 counts and detectable viral loads have an increased rate of COVID-19 diagnosis, hospitalization, or death compared with those with virologically controlled HIV infection. As these two pandemics persist globally, emerging evidence continues to reveal ways in which clinicians can address both viral infections.
How familiar are you with HIV and COVID-19, the associated risks for co-infection and complications, and best practices for prevention and treatment? Test your knowledge with this quick quiz.
