Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC) is a rare but highly lethal type of thyroid cancer with one of the worst survival rates of all malignancies, a median of only about 5 months after diagnosis. It is encouraging that advances in therapy, including the introduction of molecular-based personalized therapies and multimodal strategies, appear to be associated with significant increases in survival. However, ATC's low responsiveness to many treatments leaves a long way to go to improve outcomes for more patients with this aggressive malignancy.
