Peripheral neuropathy is the most common complication of diabetes, affecting approximately half of the diabetic population. The progressive loss of sensation caused by damaged nerves can lead to an increased risk for falls and fractures. It can also lead to foot ulcers, which can result in amputations and mortality. While many patients experience pain, nerve damage can occur in asymptomatic individuals as well. This highlights the importance of early detection to enable the initiation of a treatment plan that may help delay progression.
