Neuropathy is the most prevalent complication of diabetes. Approximately half of all individuals with diabetes will be affected by peripheral neuropathy during their lifetime. Diabetic neuropathy can be asymptomatic or can lead to a range of symptoms from pain and numbness in the legs and feet to problems with the digestive system, urinary tract, blood vessels, and heart, depending on the affected nerves. A thorough medical history, physical examination, and diagnostic workup are essential to identify diabetic neuropathy before it progresses.
