To manage high cardiovascular risk, it is important to aggressively lower levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). Statin therapy is the cornerstone of preventing atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), driven mainly by its ability to lower LDL-C levels. Unfortunately, statins alone may be insufficient to reach treatment goals, and not all patients tolerate them. Non-statin options to lower lipids such as LDL-C are required to comprehensively address cardiovascular risk.
