Fact or Fiction: Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by the presence of eczematous lesions, which reflects dysfunction of the immune system and skin barrier. AD typically develops in childhood and may persist as a chronic condition into adulthood. The condition most commonly presents between 3 and 6 months of age. Risk factors strongly associated with AD are a family history of atopy and loss of function mutations in the FLG gene.
