Mindfulness-based treatment approaches include paying close attention to physical sensations, controlling breath, meditating, and achieving a heightened awareness. Patients turn to mindfulness and related approaches for a host of complaints, including chronic pain, elevated blood pressure, anxiety, and gastrointestinal difficulties. According to a US national survey from 2017, the number of adults who practiced mindfulness in the year before they were surveyed tripled.
